Doing Nothing

Doing nothing.

That sounds so simple doesn’t it? In fact, there are people who work hard all day, everyday, nonstop who would give anything just to be able to do nothing for a few hours. I am not one of those people.

Having nothing to do is incredible difficult for me. Just guessing, after reading that a lot of you want to slap me right now don’t you. I do not blame you. I am lucky to be a position to have the option of doing nothing, so for those of you who fantasize about that luxury, feel free to stop reading and hate me now.

For the rest of you who love to be busy and hate sitting still, this is for you. It is hard to turn off our brains and ambition and admitted we need a break. It feels lazy and like we are failing. But sometimes it is necessary for our state of mind. When you are anxious, depressed, or exhausted, sometimes you just need to take a break. When you work non stop, sometimes you lose sight of your purpose, the real reason you started down this path in the first place.

So go for a walk, take a nap, stare at a blank wall. Do whatever you need to do to restart your brain. And once you do, you realize that for the first time in a long time, you know exactly what you want and don’t want. You’ll remember why you started to work hard, figuring out what you want to do next, suddenly becomes so much clearer. At least it worked for me.

What do you do if you have no idea where your life is going?

If you have the answer let me know.
