Getting a Job With Reoccurring Depression

Getting a job is always stressful.  You worry about your resume, whether you are going to make a good impression and there is always that terrifying moment when your convinced you have spinach in your teeth even though you can’t remember the last time you had spinach!

On an unrelated note, I should probably eat more spinach.

However, when you have reoccurring depression, sometimes the most stress comes after you get the job. Every night when I go to sleep, the thought that I could wake up the next day and not be able to get out of bed lingers in the back of my mind. Sometimes I feel depressive episodes coming on, other times it is the worlds worst surprise.

When it takes everything you have to motivate yourself to get out of bed and brush your teeth, getting to work dressed and over an hour late can feel like a huge victory to you. It’s not so for your boss.

Ever since I had a major depressive episode that lasted three weeks, getting a normal nine to five job terrifies me. If I make a commitment, I want to see it through. I don’t want to let down my boss or my coworkers.

This dose not mean the situation is hopeless. There are several jobs you can do from home, or as an independent contractor ( Ubber/Lyft driver, Dog Walker, Baby Sitter.)

It might not be a long term solution, but it’s a way to make money while your mind and body heal.

What do you do when you have no idea where your life is going?

If you have an answer, let me know.
